Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says this is the “start of the end” of the “honeymoon” for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Treasurer Jim Chalmers, after the RBA lifted the cash rate by 50 basis points to 0.85 per cent.
“It doesn’t get any better than the first two weeks, I suspect, for Anthony Albanese and Jim Chalmers,” Mr Clennell told Sky News Australia.
“I mean, you’ve got gas prices going up, energy prices going up, grocery prices … now an interest rate rise to try and temper it. “I don’t think anyone argues that more needs to be done about wages in Australia but how do you do it without driving up inflation at the same time?”
