A federal government tally has revealed NSW received more Pfizer vaccines than its share of the population over the past seven months as Premier Daniel Andrews demanded 340,000 extra doses from Canberra to rectify the “secret” and “under the table” arrangement.
“I signed up to a national plan to vaccinate our nation, not a national plan to vaccinate Sydney,” Mr Andrews said. Victoria lost ground in the Pfizer rollout to GPs and other primary care clinics from the middle of the year, when 389,280 doses went to NSW but only 213,120 went to Victoria in July. The gap widened in August when 711,054 doses went to NSW and only 308,610 went to Victoria.on Tuesday evening that Victoria needed 340,000 more doses from the federal government to restore its fair share of the allocation.
NSW received 35.6 per cent of the Pfizer doses across the three programs, higher than its 32 per cent share of the population, as a result of federal decisions to give it more doses to combat the outbreak that began in June. Mr Hunt promised 1.7 million additional doses for all states and territories next week from deals with Britain and Singapore in recent weeks, saying they would be shared on a per-capita basis.
The NSW government received 2.9 million Pfizer vaccines, or 34.5 per cent of all the doses that went to state and territory authorities for hospitals and vaccination hubs. The Victorian primary care program received only 21.1 per cent of the allocation for the program across the country. The Queensland primary care program received 19.1 per cent and Western Australia received 8.1 per cent, both below their population shares.
