Former world No.1 Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the US Open in New York over his vaccination stance saying he will stay 'positive' and 'wait for an opportunity to compete again'.
The tournament will be the second Grand Slam the former world No.1 has missed in 2022 after he was sensationally deported from the Australian Open in January.
Djokovic’s withdrawal came just 90 minutes before the tournament organisers completed the official draw. “At this point, in the pandemic, we’re two and a half years in, I think people in all parts of the world know more about it, and the idea that he can’t travel here to play, to me is a joke,” he said, according to the AFP.
