SEREMBAN: The country needs a strong opposition to ensure better check and balance in the governance of the country, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“A strong opposition is needed to monitor the performance of the government, whether it is at federal or state level,” he said at the Ceramah Muafakat Rakyat in Bandar Sri Sendayan here on Wednesday night ."I questioned if the levy is only to be imposed on those flying out of the country, why is there no wording such as ‘airport’ or ‘flying’, written in black and white in the bill?” he said.
“The government did not fulfil its pledges, and Dr Mahathir said the manifesto was not a bible, so there needs to be a strong opposition to monitor the performance of the government,” he added.“Voters should send Barisan Nasional candidate Tok Mat to the state assembly. He has been the Mentri Besar for 14 years, therefore he can be a strong opposition leader.
"He will be the voice of the rakyat and will ensure that the government fulfills what it has promised,” he said.“I was impressed when I was in the Chinese school here on nomination day. The school was big. I later found out it cost RM10mil. "I was later informed that Tok Mat has been assisting and giving allocations to many schools, including Chinese schools and Tamil schools.Earlier, Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin who spoke at the ceramah, revealed that former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had personally invited Mohamad to contest in Rantau.
“Tok Mat came back as he is people-oriented . He wants to serve the people here to develop his hometown. He was a corporate leader,” he said."You can see he always goes to event on his own, without a lot of officials surrounding him,” he added.“But you all please don’t expect he will win for sure. Remember to come out and vote for him,” he said.
