The latest from B.C. roots writer Joe Charron is out in time for the artist’s busy tour schedule.
Vancouver singer/songwriter Joe Charron isn’t a newcomer to the alt-country/folk scene. From the packaging to the music, his fifth album shows that. Not that it’s easy being an indie artist working in a genre that is both full of talented acts and gets limited radio action.“We just hit No. 13 on CFUV Victoria and No. 1 on their folk/roots chart,” he wrote. “I would love to send you a copy.
2: Wildflower: The cover image is a photo of the Baykey Ranch on Boulder Mountain Road near Barriere and it’s perfectly evocative of the haunting, sadness in this song about breakup, depression and loss on a failing ranch. You can look at the photo, with its foggy focus, and see the tears falling. 4: This Place Called Home: OK, this album comes with a full-lyric booklet. Remember those? It’s what writers used to demand was included in their recordings to showcase their poetry. Of course, different styles demand different approaches. Charron is very much of the era when this was how it was done and he delivers lines like, “I know this old concession road/I know every rut beneath my pickup wheels/And even if I close my eyes/This road will take me home,” with honesty.
