Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti promised on Saturday that the government's 2025 budget law will not feature any new taxes after previous comments he made about the need for sacrifices sparked controversy.
"There will certainly not be more taxes," Giorgetti told an event organized by daily newspaper Il Foglio. "Cuts to the labour-tax wedge, which everyone judged to be impossible or temporary, will become structural. "It's necessary to wait until Tuesday and then everything will be clearer". "We must make sacrifices and forego some useless programmes," he added.
Sources said that the government is aiming to free up three billion euros in funding via a review of public spending.
