They're very topical in Carlow
The Paddy's Day parade in Cavan had a float showing the ATM that was recently stolen by a diggerWith various Paddy's Day parades taking place across the country, it's very likely that the most local ones will have a strong sense of identity and place.
After all, the main parade in Dublin is usually frequented by tourists and while it's a fine spectacle, it might not be able to capture the little nuances and details that make local Irish life what it is. After all, the main parade has to capture the hearts and minds of people from around the world. On this note, it's highly unlikely that anyone from China, Brazil, the US etc have heard about the recent ATM theft that occurred at Main Street, Kingscourt, Co. Cavan. On arrival, they discovered that a"large digger" had been used to remove the ATM from the bank. The ATM was placed on a trailer being towed by a light coloured large four wheel drive vehicle .
Of course, this is a very serious crime and Gardaí appealed for witnesses to contact then at Bailleboro Garda Station on 042 9694570. However, there's something that's unique to Ireland - and Cavan itself - that they're putting that incident at the front and centre of their Paddy's Day parade. Again, the theft is obviously a very serious issue but you have to admire the effort that went into making this float.
